Matthew Daddario was born on October 1st, 1987 in New York City. He grew up on Upper East Side, Manhattan and has two sisters, Alexandra and Catharine. Both his parents are lawyers. Matthew went to college at Indiana University and graduated with a business degree in 2010.

After college, Matthew started taking acting classes. In an interview with “RAW Pages” in 2017, he said that both his parents told their kids not to become lawyers and find a job they would enjoy, which is why he got into acting.

At the beginning of his career, Matthew did a couple of commercials such as Amazon Kindle or Burger King. His first movie gig was the 2012 short film The Debut, where he played the role of Peter. In 2013, he starred in the romantic drama Breathe In alongside Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything). Later that year, he played Sebastian in the thriller 36 Saints and was featured in the comedy Delivery Man beside Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders.

In 2014, he appeared on the comedy Growing Up and Other Lies before starring as Danny Ladouceur on When The Game Stands Tall, a drama that follows the true story of a high school football coach. A year later, he played a charming doorman named Gabriel in the romantic comedy Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List. In early 2016, Matt played Jeff in the horror film Cabin Fever.

Matt is best known for his work on the Freeform TV series Shadowhunters. He plays Alec Lightwood, a talented shadowhunter struggling with his sexuality. The show has received a lot of praise from fans and critics, earning it a few Teen Choice Awards in 2016 and the GLAAD Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2017. Following the show’s first two seasons, the third season is expected to start in early 2018.

Aside from his career as an actor, Matthew also works as a producer and director. The Last Hunt, a short film he starred in and directed together with Brock Harris, premiered at SOHO International Film Festival in New York in June 2016. The two of them recently teamed up again to film a documentary called Nomad Cowboys, which does not have a release date yet.
